Nominations Sought For Music Educator of the Year Award!

March 1, 2008

Dear friend of the HCPSS Music Program:

Howard County Parents for School Music (HCPSM) is pleased to announce its annual Howard County Music Educator of the Year Award for 2008. We hope that you will consider nominating a teacher from your school and publicize the nomination in your school community. Details of the award and tips on preparing a nomination are posted on www2.hcpss.org/music, the Howard County Music Department’s website. We encourage you to inform your local school administrator and the PTA and PTSA presidents that the nomination process is now open. All HCPSM members will be notified via email. All forms are due by March 27, 2008.

The purpose of this award is to publicly recognize, thank, and honor a teacher who skillfully fosters individual growth in students by enabling each student to experience the joy of music as a listener, general classroom student, or performer. A committee comprised of representatives from HCPSM, the Howard County Arts Council, the PTA Council, music staff, and the Office of Organizational and Professional Development will make the final decision based on pre-determined criteria. A plaque will be presented to the recipient during one of the regular school board meetings in May. A press release will also be distributed to the media.

I encourage you to participate in the nomination process and I look forward to hearing from your school.

Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Davis
Chair, HCPSM
